A flight instructor since 1973, Bill Hays opened ATD in 1996. The company began small with Bill as the only instructor in his own Piper Cherokee 140. His first move toward growth came when he purchased a PCATD flight simulator and began specializing in instrument training.
In April, 2000 Bill added a second instructor to assist him named Josh Sewell. Bill was Josh's instructor from the start. Bill and Josh continued to operate ATD on their own for the next couple years. In March 2002 ATD went through another major expansion. At this time, there was the arrival of a second airplane, the completion of a new, larger office, as well as the addition of a new classroom, a CATS written testing center, a full time general manager, and several flight instructors.
Currently ATD has 10 flight instructors who meet the high standards that Bill requires. If you decide to check ATD for your training you will find that a sense of humor and a willingness to work well together is a prerequisite for our instructors. Your learning and flying experience will be fun.
ATD also operates 10 airplanes and 2 PCATD simulators. We continue to grow even today and look forward to a bright future as Kansas City’s most complete flight training facility.
